PROF. LENA LEE

I am an Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education at Miami University of Ohio, USA. My foci of research, teaching, and professional service are on young children from diverse backgrounds who are often marginalized and their education in various socieities and cultures. My work has speculated these children's learning and lives with technology and media and diversity and multicultural teacher/education in global contexts. I teach early childhood education and child development, global childhood, early childhood social studies, and community based pratice in early childhood education.

MY LATEST RESEARCH

LIPE [Low Income Preschool Enhancement] Project (2014-Present)

This project has been funded by the PNC Foundation since 2014 to support young children (aged 3-5) who are in low-income preschools. It aims 1) to give the children various activities that promote meaningful life experiences and help understanding of the academic contents through digital media; and 2) to offer Miami University early childhood pre-service teachers' experiences to learn more about working effectively with diverse children from low income family backgrounds.

Chinese Early Childhood Teachers' Perspectives on Diversity (2016-Present)

This research explores how Chinese teachers perceive diversity and children with divese families by examining Chinese early childhood teachers' points of view. It is particularly focused on their standpoints on nation, national identity, and images of ideal citzens for young children of China. The research attempts to fully investigate how multiculturalism and its relevant education for young children is considered, and emerged within the complex dialectic of Chinese society in which thesocial values and cultural expectations of differences and diversity are intertwined.
